CITY HALL PROCLAMATION FOR MISS TRINIDAD & TOBAGO
NEW YORK
The City Council of the City of
New York, under the auspices of the Honorable Speaker Gifford Miller, and the Honorable Council Members Dr. Kendall Stewart and Yvette Clarke, recognized Trinidad & Tobago nationals for outstanding service to the
Caribbean community and the City of
New York. Among the awardees who received a City Hall Proclamation was Renee Cummings.
Cummings was recognized for making a difference in the
Caribbean community through Miss Trinidad &
Tobago
New York. “Over the years, I have used this pageant to move young women from passive postures to pro-active stances. I use my training as a clinician and educator to assist them in aligning or sometimes re-aligning their career goals and in negotiating a more constructive and self-directed path towards future success,” said Cummings.
Miss Trinidad & Tobago New York has awarded over $25,000 in scholarships money to young women of T&T heritage living in
New York. It has also offered young women an opportunity to transform their lives and change. “In my professional life, I am an activist and advocate. I believe in the creative power of the human mind to re-invent the self and the strength of the human spirit to sustain it,” added Cummings.
“I believe each person we meet has the potential to change our lives, either in a positive or a negative way. I see myself as a positive change agent and hope that each girl I meet is able to take the risk and change as Miss Trinidad &
Tobago
New York continues to build the T&T community in
New York, one woman at a time,” said Cummings.
